KUCHING: PAS spiritual leader Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat is dreaming if he thinks that Pakatan Rakyat supports the party’s stand that it is haram to conspire with Israel in any sort of way, says PBB Youth vice-chief Pandi Suhaili.
He pointed out the Kelantan Menteri Besar even failed to ask the Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to retract his statements in World Street Journal (WSJ) or sue the newspaper if it had misquoted him.
“I strongly believe that many leaders in the opposition camp, including those in PAS itself, agree with Anwar’s stance on Israel’s security.
“Maybe this episode will cost Nik Aziz his position in PAS because he might be seen as the main hurdle to the party’s ambition of winning Putrajaya together with PKR and DAP,” Pandi said.
Pandi also said he personally had high regards for Nik Aziz as a leader who had managed to keep Kelantan in the hands of PAS for so long.
“I hope that this Israel episode will open up Nik Aziz’s eyes on Anwar’s true colours,” he said.
Nik Aziz said in a statement that not recognising the state of Israel “is fair as its existence is a cruelty, inhumane and denies the rights of Muslims and the people of Palestine”.
“It is haram (illegal) to conspire with Israel in any sort of way,” he said.
Touching on Sarawak as among states with the lowest number of registered youth voters, Pandi urged fellow party members to intensify their efforts, including opening up more mobile registration centres.
