Perlukah anak Sarawak bangkit seperti Sabah?

Terlebih dahulu saya mengucapkan setinggi tahniah kepada Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Datuk Seri Rohani Karim, Nancy Shukri dan Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar kerana dikekalkan dalam Kabinet Menteri Kerajaan Persekutuan.

Keputusan untuk mengekalkan pemimpin-pemimpin Sarawak ini menunjukkan bahawa mereka telah berjaya menjalankan tanggungjawab yang telah diamanahkan kepada mereka.

Tahniah sekali lagi.

Merujuk kepada keputusan untuk tidak mengambil pemimpin Sarawak untuk mengisi kekosongan yang ditinggalkan oleh Datuk Douglas Uggah, saya berpandangan ianya bukanlah satu keputusan yang BIJAK memandangkan ia dibuat dalam keadaan politik nasional yang masih tidak menentu.

Siapa yang menjangka ahli-ahli UMNO di Sabah memberontak (apabila pemimpin mereka di gantung keahliannya) walaupun setelah UMNO berjaya memenangi pilihanraya kecil di Malaya?

PBB confident of another clean sweep in election

PUSA: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is confident that it will make another clean sweep in the upcoming 13th general election.

PBB’s permanent chairman Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar said this was based on the fact that the party had won every parliamentary and state seat allocated to it since 1991.

The party is now allocated 14 out of the 31 parliamentary seats and 35 out of the 71 state seats.

“As such all PBB branches are ready and prepared to face the upcoming 13th general election,” said Asfia when officiating at the election briefing for Beting Maro state constituency yesterday.

He also stressed on party unity as the pillar of its strength, having been tested during crises such as the one in 1987.

“The party has grown stronger and with the formula of putting winnable candidates with the support and cooperation of the local state assemblymen and assemblywomen, PBB is confident of retaining Batang Lupar which is currently represented by

Datuk Hajah Rohani Karim,” said Asfia.

Besides highlighting current political issues, the briefing also updated the party’s election machinery on the latest and applicable conduct of election in view of the amendment in law, rules and regulations.

PBB’s legal advisor Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah informed the branch that there will be no more objections on Nomination Day.

Similarly, no withdrawal of candidacy is allowed after nomination closes, he said, adding only the candidate and/or his/her proposer and seconder are allowed to present the nomination paper and be present within 50 metres of the nomination centre.

Awang Bemee also said there would be a minimum of 11 days of campaigning period.

“And this will be the first time indelible ink and pen will be used during the election.

“And this time around, the disabled can be assisted by any person they trust above the age of 21 other than their relatives,” said Awang Bemee.

He also said that media personnel assigned outside the constituencies where they vote as well as registered voters except those from southern Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei are now eligible to apply to be postal voters.

“Besides that, there will be early voting for members of the armed forces and their spouses,” added Awang Bemee, who is the former Nangka assemblyman.

Also present at the briefing were PBB Beting-Maro branch chairman Datuk Bolhassan Di, PBB executive secretary Awang Bujang, political secretary to the chief minister Colonel (R) Awangku Jamaluddin Awang Kon, Special Affairs Dept state director Hassan Bunsu, Special Affairs Dept KL director Ustaz Taharuddin Yaakob and some 300 PBB members.

KUCHING: PBB Youth Bureau Economy chief Pandi Suhaili welcomes the disclosure made by the Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim that the government has taken steps to address the shortage of chicken in the market.

He said many consumers experienced relief with the disclosure because the average price of chicken currently hovers between RM8.50 and RM9.50 per kg, which is costly.

“We hope that the ministry can act fast to normalise market price with steps that would address the matter,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He also hoped that the rakyat would be patient as the government is now making serious efforts to bring down the price for the benefit of the people in Sarawak.

“As usual the oppositions will be quick to blame the increase of the price of chicken on the government.
