No reason for PPP to enter state – PBB Youth vice-chief

KUCHING: The reasons given by People’s Progressive Party (PPP) for its decision to spread its wings to the state are baseless, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB) Youth vice-chief Pandi Suhaili.

He added the peninsula-based party should not use locals as their front to grab seats from the component parties of State Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Recently the party said 500 Sarawakians wanted the party to come to the state but why can’t the party leaders take a cue from Umno’s decision not to come in despite having so-called 70,000 Sarawakians wanting the party to come as claimed by JPUNS (Jawatankuasa Penaja Umno Negeri Sarawak),” he asked.

Pandi said it was obvious that the party never had any intention of helping the State BN despite claims made by the party leaders.

“What we can see is the party has an ulterior motive and is using locals to accomplish its objective.

“The party said it is not interested to get anything from the state BN government but just want to help the coalition win an election.

“However, at the same time, it says its members might contest as independent candidates if the state BN did not want to give it seats to contest.

Pandi said he strongly believed that the presence of the party in Sarawak was part of a hidden agenda by some BN national leaders in Semenanjung. He pointed out that the mainstream media in Semenanjung did not seem keen to report the presence of PPP in Sarawak.

“This is very strange because PPP is the first Semenanjung-based BN party to spread its wings to Sarawak.

“It will be interesting to know why this failed to be big news in the mainstream media. Is this because PPP is too insignificant to the mainstream media in Semenanjung or the media are discouraged from reporting on the matter because the BN national leaders do not want to be in a difficult situation in having to state their stand whether they agree with PPP’s decision to ignore the spirit of BN,” said Pandi.

The youth vice-chief hoped the senior BN leaders could give their explanations to Sarawakians on why no actions had been taken against PPP for not behaving as a good team player.

“The general election is to be held anytime now. We want to know what is going on in order to enable us to prepare for the election without any distraction,” he said.
