BINTULU: Private sector companies should follow the good example of Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB) in organising a voter registration exercise for its employees.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth vice-chief Pandi Suhaili said this was one of the ways to facilitate registration of young voters.

“We (PBB Youth) hope that more private sector companies will follow the initiative taken by BPSB.

“We are prepared to assist by sending our members to be appointed as assistant registrar of voters to their office,” he said.

According to him, the level of awareness among young people who are eligible to be voters is low, and it requires the efforts of employers, whether in public or private sector, to rectify this.

“PBB Youth wing will continue its activities to register voters, especially among young people aged 40 and below,” he added.

Pandi said the response to Bintulu Port’s voter registration exercise was overwhelming.

“Many employees aged below 35 took part in the campaign and sign up as voters,” he said.

Meanwhile, BPSB chief executive officer Datuk Meor Ahmad Baiti Meor Lub said the port management encouraged its employees to register as voters.

The exercise on Tuesday was organised by BPSP in collaboration with PBB Youth Jepak and held at BPSP office in Tanjung Kidurong.

Pandi, Abdul Rahman Ibrahim and Jeferi Johari oversaw the campaign.
