BINTULU: Bintulu Anaq Vaie Association (PAVB) recently had a dialogue with Assistant Minister of Tourism cum Jepak assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip regarding various issues concerning the welfare and interests of its members.

PAVB requested Talib to introduce special business stalls for its members and other Bumiputeras along Bintulu Promenade up to the RHB bank in Taman Sri Dagang.

While agreeing to the proposal, Talib urged the association to propose a strategic location for further consideration so that it can be implemented.

The chairman of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) , Talib also informed them that the corporation provides grants and business assistance worth RM5,000 to small business operators.

However, he said the loan amount can be increased to RM10,000, the maximum, if they pay their initial loans on schedule.

“However applicants must first of all attend a course conducted by SEDC to be qualified for the financial assistance,” said Talib.

As for those venturing into traditional food industry like producing ‘belacan’ (shrimp paste), ‘tumpik’, ‘cencaluk’ and others, he said the Tourism Ministry will give them support particularly in exporting the products to other countries like Brunei.

He said the maximum RM10,000 grant will be given to operators who are involved 100 per cent in traditional food industry.

This, he said, was to give the locals, especially young entrepreneurs, an opportunity to sell their products to a wider market.

PAVB also requested that they be allowed to use the empty building of the old library as their operations centre and develop it as a knowledge centre and Anaq Vaie museum.

To this, Talib asked the association to write a letter to the department concerned, saying he will give his support as no building should be left empty.

PAVB also said the building will be used jointly with Bintulu Kite Flyers Club.

Among those present at the dialogue were Anaq Vaie Association chairman Ahmad Zaidi Adenan and other committee members.
