KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak would end up with no members left before the election if the exodus of its members goes on as it is now.
Saying that members are leaving the party because of disillusionment that the party has failed to walk its talk, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth vice chief Pandi Suhaili said it was not a surprise that PKR’s Youth vice-chairman Granda Aing had turned his back on it to join SNAP.
“As time goes by, many of its leaders and supporters start to realise that the party is actually not fighting for the interest of the rakyat but for the interest of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as well as a handful of leaders in the state leadership,” he said when contacted yesterday.
He added the admission by Granda that PKR was full of problems was also not a surprise because many Sarawakians already knew about it.
Pandi pointed out that there were already many signs that foretold the exodus of the party members.
“One of the big signs is when the so-called de facto leader of the party is not elected by the members to assume the role of the party’s number one leader but appointed to the role by his men,” said Pandi, who is also Jepak Youth chief.
He said when a person is appointed to such important role, he would be less incline to listen to the wishes of members because he is not elected to assume the role but is appointed by his own men he planted in the party.
Last Friday, a news portal reported Granda as saying: “There are just too many problems in PKR … Sarawakians should not be involved with their problems.”
The former vice youth chief was also reported as being disillusioned by the many promises to Sarawak which were not fulfilled.
Granda also urged both the party’s state liaison chairman Baru Bian and Nicolas Bawin to leave PKR.
He said PKR leaders in the state were not only appointed by KL but also “controlled by them from across the South-China Sea.”
