Tun Salahuddin: Uphold religious moderation

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin yesterday called on Sarawakians to continue practising religious moderation.

He said this is the most important formula for preserving tolerance and good relationship among the multi-religious and multi-racial communities.

“Do not hold the assumption that the responsibility to preserve unity should be left to the government alone. In reality, this task should be on all our shoulders as Sarawakians because we are to share the same future and direction in order to move forward,” he said in his Christmas and New Year message yesterday.

“Therefore, I urge all Sarawakians to practise mutual respect for one another and strengthen our cooperation in line with the 1Malaysia spirit.”

He also expressed his gratitude to the state government for its success in elevating the state’s economic status.

Salahuddin noted that the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) had attracted a lot of foreign investment and that it was set to carry the state forward.

“In this respect, the state government has succeeded in implementing a long term economic plan which benefits the people of Sarawak. I call on our younger generation to take the opportunity to equip themselves with technological and technical knowledge to secure good job opportunities in SCORE.”

KUCHING: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will continue to scout for suitable technologies to propel the state to be the most prosperous in the nation by 2030.

He also said the reason behind his continuous effort in exploring new technologies and expertise in other countries was to identify sources of trainers and lecturers to help Sarawak to cope up with increasing demand for skilled manpower in the future.

“The future is very challenging and full of competition for innovation, requiring manpower with technical skills and techno-logical knowledge to increase productivity, efficiency and to prosper the people as well as to expand the volume of economy,” he said in his Christmas message.

The message was read by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang which was aired over RTM Sarawak last night.

KUCHING: Compensating consumers for the inconvenience and losses incurred due to power outage is not practised anywhere, Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said.

“Tell me which country does that,” he said to reporters after the adjournment of the state legislative assembly (DUN) sitting here yesterday.

Taib, who is also Resource Planning and Environment Minister, said this when asked to comment on suggestions that Sarawak Energy Berhad be accountable for the inconveniences and losses incurred due to frequent power outage in the state.

He also said that such a situation was bound to happen when the state was undergoing the process of improving and upgrading its energy supply capacity.

He pointed out that the state had started its electricity generation using generators and hydro on a much smaller volume so in the process of intensifying the capacity there were bound to be some unexpected problems to the system.

KUCHING: Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) will enters its phase two development towards vision 2020 from 2016 onwards to ensure growth and development of the corridor by building industrial clusters and value chains as well as to develop research and development capabilities.

According to Buckland Bangik, principal assistant director of State Planning Unit for SCORE and Industry, the main aim in phase two was to align development efforts with vision 2020 before entering the third phase which would be on the ‘corridor fruition’ stage until 2030.

SCORE is currently in phase one (2008-2015), which is to build critical mass and momentum to trigger development and to implement high priority infrastructure projects.

“In the meantime, we are also trying very hard to bring in more investments into the state despite we are still in the ‘laying the foundation’ stage,” he stressed during the KTS business partners talk yesterday.

While SCORE welcomes all types of investments from the local and foreign direct investors, 10 industries has also been identified as priority industries, namely the aluminium industry, glass, oil-based industry, steel, palm oil, fishing and aquaculture, livestock, timber, marine engineering as well as tourism.

Pujian harus diberikan kepada usaha untuk mengetengahkan penderitaan rakyat Palestin akibat dari kezaliman rejim zionis Israil yang tanpa ada rasa malu ataupun takut untuk bertindak kejam keatas saudara sedarah mereka.

Bukan semua rakyat Palestin berbangsa Arab kerana ada yang berbangsa Yahudi. Dan mereka semua dari jalur keturunan yang sama dengan bangsa Yahudi yang membentuk rejim zionis Israil.

Walau bagaimanapun, atas sebab rasa tamak haloba yang extreme, mereka sanggup untuk membunuh tanpa mengira siapa. 

Rejim zionist Israil berani bertindak sedemikian kerana mereka tahu bahawa negara yang kononnya raja demokrasi dunia, Amerika Syarikat, berdiri dibelakang mereka.

Walaupun sudah nyata rejim zionis Israil bertindak ganas zalim, Amerika Syarikat, yang dipuja-puja oleh parti pembangkang, akan tetap membela mereka.

Adalah diharapkan lebih banyak usaha-usaha untuk mengetengahkan penderitaan rakyat Palestin dilakukan di negeri ini.

Pihak NGO seperti Aman Palestin dan We Love Prophet Muhammad Global Club perlu bergabung tenaga dan kemahiran secara strategik untuk memastikan objektif untuk membantu rakyat Sarawak memahami penderitaan rakyat Palestin akan dicapai dengan mudah.

Marilah kita berdoa agar penderitaan rakyat Palestin akan berakhir tidak lama lagi.

Strong domestic demand to spur state’s economy

KUCHING: Sarawak’s economy is projected to expand by five per cent in 2013.

Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the growth would be supported by stronger domestic demand generated by the dynamic economic activities of on-going projects in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) and projects under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP).

“Our state economy is expected to record a favourable growth of 4.5 per cent this year,” he said when tabling the Sarawak Budget 2013 at State Legislative Assembly Complex yesterday.

Gesaan yang dibuat oleh bekas Ahli Majlis Tertinggi PKR Irene Fernandez agar status Bumiputera yang diberikan kepada Melayu dan pribumi di Sarawak dan Sabah dimansuhkan adalah satu gesaan yang keterlaluan.

Tuduhan bahawa "affirmative action" hanya memberi faedah kepada kelompok kecil kelas atasan adalah satu tuduhan yang berniat jahat.

Di Sarawak sahaja, ramai pribumi telah menikmati faedah dari 'affirmative action" yang bertujuan untuk mewujudkan imbangan sosial dan ekonomi yang positif diantara pribumi dan bukan pribumi.

Ini tidak termasuk di Semenanjung dan Sabah dimana pribumi telah mendapat faedah dari "affirmative action" sehingga kehidupan mereka dan keturunan mereka terbela.

Bekas ahli majlis tertinggi PKR sepatutnya mampu untuk menilai elemen positif yang telah disumbangkan oleh "affirmative action" terhadap pembangunan negara.
