Kenyataan Naib Ketua Pemuda PBB Sarawak Pandi Suhaili - 26 Ogos 2012

Kenyataan Naib Ketua Pemuda PBB Sarawak Pandi Suhaili
26hb Ogos 2012
(merujuk kepada
- The Borneo Post)

Sekian. Terimakasih.

KUCHING: PBB Bengoh branch vice chief Munded Banat yesterday came out in support of Mambong MP Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit whom sources said might be dropped in the 13th general election.

Yesterday, a tabloid said speculations were rife that Dawos, who is also Deputy Tourism Minister, would be replaced after he openly criticised the Forest Department last June over a logging issue at the Bengoh Resettlement Scheme.

The tabloid added that some BN leaders were unhappy and had approached a few individuals to find out if they were interested to stand in Mambong.

Munded said what Dawos highlighted was right because the logging area had been gazetted as a water catchment area.

“Dawos is right to voice his concern as the area has been gazetted as a water catchment area and yet there is a licence to carry out logging activities in the same area,” said Munded when contacted yesterday.

He added that Dawos was merely speaking the truth when he pointed an accusing finger at the Forestry Department.

“Dawos is compelled to voice his concern as an elected representative and after receiving many complaints from the people in the affected areas.

“If he (Dawos) doesn’t speak up, the people in the constituency will say that he is not doing his job or is hiding something.”

However, Dawos, when contacted, declined to comment, except to say “let the people speak and judge for themselves”.

When the logging issue was brought up in June, state PKR chief Baru Bian had commented then that it was important for leaders to be truthful and voiced the wishes of the people.

“The emergence of voices such as that of Datuk Dr James Dawos who took the Forestry Department to task for issuing the timber licences in the Bengoh Resettlement area is an encouraging sign that the voices of the people cannot be silenced,” Baru was quoted as saying then.
