BINTULU: The Youth wing of PBB Sarawak condemns any action that could lead to disunity among Malaysians, especially via social networking media.

In saying this, its vice-chief Pandi Suhaili expressed sadness that after almost 50 years after the formation of Malaysia, extremist groups were still around trying to sow seeds of hatred between people of Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.

“Although we believe these extremists will not succeed as Malaysians are generally mature, we are still worried because if no immediate action is taken by the relevant parties to address this problem, it can spread into an epidemic,” said Pandi as quoted in his blog.

He thus called on all Malaysians irrespective of political affiliations to be united in fighting any effort by extremists to split the people.

“At this time, unity among Malaysians is already damaged by the opposition, and if there is no cooperation from all parties, including the opposition, solidarity among Malaysians will be weaker and would lead to destruction of the nation,” he further said.

He pointed out that Malaysia, being a multi-ethnic country, cannot afford to see its people arguing with each other.

“Therefore, the cooperation of all parties is essential to ensure unity among Malaysians to fight against extremist groups,” he added.

He was commenting on an online article by a national daily on Aug 25 over anti-Sarawak postings in social networking sites.

The article said earlier this year, similar postings also appeared on Facebook. However, police have yet to trace the administrators of the site.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Zulkifli Hassan who was quoted said they had yet to receive any report on the matter.

“This could be the same people who posted similar postings on Facebook earlier this year,” said Zulkifli.
