KUCHING: A Sarawakian opposition figure Prof Dr Razali Bolhi has decided to join BN component party, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).
Dr Razali, a homeopathy practitioner based in Selangor, was once the PKR Kuala Selangor deputy chairman and he also served as executive secretary to Selangor Chief Minister Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
He and 19 others handed over their application forms to SUPP deputy president Datuk Richard Riot at an Aidilfitri luncheon held late last month in Muara Mongkos, near Serian.
Dr Razali is no stranger to state politics, as he was also once a SNAP vice-president and last contested in the state election in 2006.
Standing under SNAP ticket, he contested in the Bidayuh majority seat of Kedup and lost by a majority of 1,981 votes to then-incumbent Frederick Bayoi Manggie of BN-PBB.
Met yesterday, Dr Razali said he now threw his support behind BN because he believed in the 1Malaysia concept and the government transformation programme.
“I believe only a home-grown party can represent the state and drive the state forward through BN,” he said.
According to him, he left PKR because he no longer subscribed to the struggles of certain leaders in the party although he stressed he still kept good relationship with his former boss, Khalid.
On another matter, he said the function at Muara Mongkos was organised by Persatuan Persaudaraan Dayak Islam (Pedi) of which he is the president.
He pointed out that more than 200 people attended the function which was officiated by Riot, the Serian MP.
