BINTULU: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth wants TV3 presenter Nurul Syuhada Nurul Ain to apologise openly for describing Bintulu as a backward area during a ‘live’ crossover report.

PBB Youth vice-chief Pandi Suhaili in a statement here yesterday said the apology should be made openly to calm the anger of Bintulu residents.

Bintulu is scheduled to host the national-level Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16.

“PBB Youth would like to see Nurul Syuhada apologise over TV3 considering the statement on Bintulu was made by her when the presenter was reporting ‘live’ during the National Day celebration from Dataran Merdeka,” he said in a statement to Bernama.

Pandi said Nurul Syuhada was not knowledgeable on Bintulu causing her to consider Bintulu town as backward when Bintulu was a main contributor to Malaysia’s GDP with gas and oil revenue.

“PBB Youth hopes Nurul Syuhada will improve her journalistic capability by conducting detailed research for her reports and not rely on what she heard and saw,” he said.

He also wanted TV3 to ensure all information on Sarawak was correct before broadcasting so as not to offend any parties especially the people of the state.

He said Bintulu had long developed and PBB Youth regretted it when Malaysians themselves did not know of the situation and position of Bintulu by referring it to as an outback.

“It is hoped TV3’s management will ensure such matters do not recur in future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nurul Syuhada’s controversial statement has become a hot subject in the social media such as Facebook with one special account ‘Sila Mohon Maaf secara terbuka Cik Nurul Syuhada & TV3’ (demand for applogy) set up with support from 2,000 members including a member of the Sarawak State Assembly.— Bernama
